Inhabitted Abstractions
Inspired by the cocoon-shaped evening wrap designed by Cristobal Balenciaga in 1951 and his representation of the space between the garment and the dress and Rei Kawakubo and her rebellious approach to clothing, I based my design on the MA-1 bomber jacket and its recreation.
Using drawstrings, snaps, and the idea of a versified and changeable garment, I wanted to give a sense of control to the wearer and reinforce the gender-neutral aspect of the bomber jacket.
